TERMS

Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Poppin. Last updated October 11, 2026.

Who we are and what this covers

Poppin (findwhatspoppin.com) is a local events directory run by its founder as a sole proprietorship doing business as Poppin, based in Redding, California (“Poppin”, “we”, “us”). These terms cover the website, its emails, its feeds, and every plan and purchase made on it. Using Poppin means you accept them. The Privacy Policy, the Community and Listing Guidelines and the Copyright Policy are part of these terms.

Who can use Poppin

Anyone can browse without an account. You must be at least 13 to create an account, and at least 18 to host events, buy a plan, a boost or a sponsor slot, or sign for an organization. If you act for an organization, you confirm you have the authority to bind it, and “you” includes it.

Your account

Give a real email address and keep your sign-in to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account; tell us at hello@findwhatspoppin.com if someone else gets into it. One person, one account. You can delete your account at any time from Account settings, as the Privacy Policy describes.

Hosting events

Hosting starts with an application, which we approve or decline at our discretion. A host is responsible for every listing it publishes:

  • the event is real, and its date, time, place, price, age limits and accessibility details are accurate;
  • ticket and website links go where they say;
  • it holds the rights to the words, images and logos it uploads, and nothing in them breaks the law or the Guidelines;
  • it keeps the listing current, and cancels it on Poppin when the event is cancelled.

A host’s listings are reviewed before they go live until it has 3 approved listings. Hosts that invite team members are responsible for what those members do on the host’s page.

Permission to show your content. You keep ownership of what you post. You give Poppin a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, copy, resize, display and distribute it, and to show it in Poppin’s pages, emails, feeds, share cards and promotion of Poppin and your event, for as long as it is on Poppin and for a reasonable time after it is removed so caches and sent emails can lapse. You can remove a listing at any time; a published listing is archived rather than erased so its history and counts stay intact.

Imported listings

Some listings are gathered from public sources so an area is useful from day one. Each one names its source and links back to it, and images are shown from the source rather than copied. If you are the organizer, you can claim the listing and take it over. If you are the source or the organizer and want a listing removed, email hello@findwhatspoppin.com; we remove it within 24 hours. If you tell us a listing is wrong, we correct or remove it within two business days.

Reporting and moderation

Anyone can report a listing from its page, and a person reviews every report. We may edit obvious errors, decline, unpublish or archive any listing, and suspend or close any account that breaks these terms or the Guidelines, or that puts people at risk. Where it is safe and practical we tell the host why. A listing we take down stays down until we restore it.

Paid plans, trials and renewal

Listing events is free, with no monthly limit. Paid plans (Host, Pro and Builder) add features listed on the plans page at the prices shown there. Payments are processed by Stripe; Poppin never sees your full card number. Prices do not include taxes. Where the law requires tax on a plan, boost or sponsor slot, we add it to the charge and show it at checkout and on each invoice.

Automatic renewal. A paid plan is a monthly subscription. It renews automatically every month, and your card is charged the plan’s monthly price at each renewal, until you cancel. Before you pay, the checkout shows the price, the renewal period and any trial, and you tick a box agreeing to them. We email you a confirmation of these terms and how to cancel after you subscribe.

Trials. Pro and Builder come with a free trial of the length shown on the plans page; Host has none. A card is required to start a trial. Nothing is charged during the trial. When it ends, the plan converts to a paid monthly subscription and your card is charged unless you cancelled before the trial ended. Each organizer gets one trial, ever; changing plans does not start a second.

Cancelling. Cancel any time online: in your host dashboard, open Billing and choose Manage subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal. The plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, then the page returns to the free plan and its listings stay up.

Refunds. Payments are not refunded for partial months or unused features, except where these terms say otherwise (the view guarantee credit, a sponsor slot that does not run, a boost that cannot run, an Event promo pack not delivered in time) or where the law requires it.

Price changes. We email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription. If you do not want to pay it, cancel before the renewal it takes effect on.

Failed payments. If a renewal cannot be charged, Stripe retries it; if it still fails, the plan ends and the page returns to the free plan.

Founding Hosts

The first 10 hosts in each area to pay for a plan become Founding Hosts. A Founding Host keeps the Founding Host mark on its host page and share cards for as long as its Poppin account stays open, including after it stops paying. The mark ends if the account is deleted, or closed under these terms. A Founding Host also keeps the monthly price it signed up at for as long as its subscription stays active without a break. A subscription move that Poppin starts to a new Stripe account is not a break: each subscription is recreated on its renewal date at the same price.

The view guarantee

Pro and Builder plans include a view guarantee: if a listing does not reach the typical number of views for listings like it, you get a month of the plan credited.

Which listings qualify

  • The listing is published by a host on Pro or Builder at the moment it is published, is the host’s own listing (not an imported one), and is not edited into a different event.
  • It stays published for its first 7 days, unless the event ends sooner.
  • Its category and city are accurate.

How views are counted

  • A view counts when a person keeps the listing’s own page, or its preview on Poppin, open for at least 2 seconds.
  • Each person counts once, however many times they return. A person is a signed-in account, or for signed-out visitors a one-way hash of their network address.
  • Views by the host’s own team, and traffic we judge to be automated, do not count.
  • Only views in the listing’s first 7 days after it is published count.

What it is compared with

The listing is compared with the median of the same count for every listing in the same city and category published on Poppin over the previous two months. If there are fewer than 5 such listings, the median says too little and no verdict is given. A listing below the median has missed.

What you get

  • A credit equal to one month of your plan, applied to your next invoice. It is a credit only, never cash, and it has no value after the subscription ends.
  • At most one credit for any one month of your plan, however many listings missed that month. A listing published during a free trial earns no credit, because that month costs nothing.
  • We check every qualifying listing after its 7 days and apply credits without a claim. If you think we missed one, email hello@findwhatspoppin.com within 30 days of the listing’s first week ending.

Poppin’s count is final. We may void a verdict, and refuse or reverse a credit, where we find views were manipulated in either direction, or a listing was published or edited to collect a credit.

Boosts

A boost costs $20 and features one listing for 7 days or until the event ends, whichever comes first. No plan is needed. A boost does not promise any number of views. If a boost cannot run because the listing was removed or cancelled before it started, we refund it in full; once it has started it is not refunded.

Event promo packs

An Event promo pack costs $99, paid once, for one event. It includes a print flyer (letter size and an 11x17 poster) and 3 social images (square, story and landscape), made from the event’s listing and the brief you give before checkout. We deliver it within 5 business days of payment, and one round of changes is included. If we do not deliver it within 10 business days, we refund it in full. Buying a pack has no effect on an event’s ranking, placement or the view guarantee. The words, images and logos in your listing and brief must be yours to use.

Sponsor slots

A sponsor slot costs $150 and places your business in one area’s weekend email as “Supported by”, with your name, one line and a link. Each email carries at most 3. Every sponsor is reviewed before its issue sends, and a paid slot not approved in time is refunded in full. Your name, line, link and logo must be accurate, lawful and yours to use, and must follow the Guidelines. We may decline a slot for any reason before the issue sends; a declined slot, or a slot in an issue that does not send, is refunded in full. A slot does not promise any number of opens or clicks.

Partners

Partner calendars, feeds and services are sold by a signed order form, which is the whole contract for those services. These terms apply to a Partner only for its use of the rest of Poppin.

This feed is for personal calendars. A website or organization listing needs a Partner licence.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • post anything false, misleading, unlawful, or that you do not have the rights to;
  • spam, harass, impersonate, or collect other people’s personal information from Poppin;
  • inflate or deflate views, saves or clicks, or test the view guarantee with automated or arranged traffic;
  • scrape, copy or resell Poppin’s listings or data in bulk, or use them to build a competing directory, except through a feed we have licensed to you;
  • probe, overload or get around the security or rate limits of the service.

Events, tickets and other sites

Poppin lists events; it does not run them or sell their tickets. Whether an event happens, what it costs, refunds for tickets, safety, accessibility and conduct at the event are between you and its organizer and ticket seller. Links to other sites are for convenience; their own terms apply there.

Disclaimers

Poppin is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any listing is accurate or any event takes place.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Poppin is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from the service or any event listed on it. Poppin’s total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Poppin in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud or gross negligence.

Your responsibility for your content

If you host events, buy a sponsor slot or otherwise post content, you will defend and indemnify Poppin against third-party claims, and the costs and reasonable legal fees that follow, arising from your content, your events, or your breach of these terms.

Ending this agreement

You can stop using Poppin and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close an account, or stop offering any part of the service, with notice where practical. If we close an account for reasons other than a breach of these terms, we refund any prepaid fees for the time not used. The sections on content licenses (for the time stated), disclaimers, limits on liability, indemnity and disputes survive the end of the agreement.

Disputes

Tell us first at hello@findwhatspoppin.com; most problems are fixed fastest that way. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute is decided by the state or federal courts located in Shasta County, California, and you and Poppin consent to their jurisdiction. Either side may instead bring a claim in small claims court where it qualifies.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes with every update. For a material change we email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect, and price changes follow the 30-day notice above. Using Poppin after a change takes effect means you accept it. A change never applies to a dispute that arose before it.

General

These terms, with the documents they name and any order form you sign, are the whole agreement between you and Poppin about the service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it to a business that takes over Poppin, including the company Poppin is moving into, and your plan, price and Founding Host mark carry over. Electronic notices and consent have the same effect as paper.
